If you have a question not answered here, please feel free to contact us.
Will I receive credit for the classes that I take in Summer Bridge?
Yes. Most classes offered in Summer Bridge are approved courses and meet either Cal's graduation requirements or are prerequisites for required courses.
Can I work during Summer Bridge?
No. Bridge is a full-time academic program. To complete Summer Bridge successfully, you must attend all your classes, workshops and seminars. In addition, you are encouraged to participate in all residence hall activities.
Do I have to live on campus?
Yes. Summer Bridge is an academic residential program, and you will live in a University residence hall.
Can I go home on weekends?
You are not required to stay on campus during the weekend, however most students find they need to stay to study, complete papers or do library research.
Do I need to sign up for CalSO?
All Summer Bridge students are invited to participate in the June 5-6 CalSO program in Berkeley or the June 20 CalSO program in Southern California (SoCal residents only). Although CalSO is optional for Bridge students, you are encouraged to attend in order to meet other admitted students and begin enrolling in courses for the fall semester. The CalSO student fee is waived for all Bridge students.
Do I get a break before fall classes begin?
Yes. There is a week between the end of Summer Bridge and the first day of Welcome Days.
Should I attend Welcome Week activities?
Yes. This is your opportunity to meet your fall roommates and to begin developing a sense of community in your new residence hall. Welcome Days activities begin on Monday, August 24, and fall instruction begins on Wednesday, August 26, 2009.
Can I choose my Summer Bridge roommate?
You can request a roommate by including his/her name and student identification number in the "roommate request" section of the Summer Bridge Housing Contract. This is optional; you do not have to choose a roommate, and the program suggests you get to know someone new.
